Rainy Days Of Fall.

I really wish it would stop raining and the sun would come out. Of course, when it does stop raining, it stays so dreary and foggy and gross. There was a day where we had some sun, but otherwise it’s been nothing but gray. And it looks like more rain this weekend, but hopefully I can catch a window of dryness to hit the trails for more flicks. Welcome to Autumn I guess.

Here’s about a week’s worth of photos for you.

Catch Of The Week: 09/13/09-09/20/09.

I haven’t done a Catch Of The Week for awhile so I felt it was long overdue. Lucky for me, I’ve got two great pieces for this installment.

The first is a nice end to end on a Cryo-Trans reefer. I saw this on my first morning trip to the yard after being out of commission for about a week. A very good way to start things off.

Off The Bench.

Good Lord. It’s been a long week. I haven’t been able to get out too much but hopefully that will be remedied this weekend.

This is what I’ve got right now.

100th Post: A Look Back At AUIYNHYG.

I was feeling nostalgic the other day, and was going through some of my older photos and spent some time going through some of my very first graffiti photos. It’s really quite interesting to see how far I’ve come in my photographic “career” and to see what different directions I have taken with photography. This is definitely apparent in seeing how my collection of graffiti photos has grown over the years.

Since this is AUIYNHYG’s 100th post, I decided to put together a little (300+ photos) nostalgia piece, a look back on some of my favorite photos from the past and present, looking as far back as the days before AUIYNHYG and This Way East. These may not be the best photographs or flicks of the best graffiti, but they represent where it all started, and where it all is now.

I wanted to start with some very important photographs.

I really first started paying attention to graffiti as I started to notice little tags here and there on my many explorations into parts of the city. Quite a few writers come to mind that I can honestly say got me “into” graffiti just by seeing their names written everywhere. As I roamed the streets often, I found myself clicking away on every street post, electrical box and everything in between.

This is the first piece of freight train graffiti that I ever photographed, taken in 2005.

It was years later when I realized that the first train I ever flicked (while on the move and when I was still learning about photography) was a THUH piece, someone who has always been a constant in my train flicks over the years.

This second photograph is the first freight train piece that made me realize how beautiful graffiti really is and what got me going back to the yard, day after day.

Autumn Edition.

The seasons are changing and although I do look forward to the cool, crisp days of Autumn, I do not look forward to the darkness that sets in far too early. For this means that my time at the yard is limited. Instead of being able to get photos twice a day, I’m limited to hoping to get good stuff on my morning run. And then eventually, it will be too cold to ride my bicycle to work and then I’ll be limited to yard visits on the weekend. I accept this is a natural changing of the season, and a shifting of the earth, yet it still makes me sad and already I find myself longing for the days of summer.

In the past week or so, I’ve definitely been struggling with the early nightfall and I’ve already seen a decline in the photos I’ve been able to catch. I always forget how quickly it seems to happen once August has slipped past us.

But, so it goes. And so for now I’ll just make do with what I have and keep on keepin’ on.

Labor Day Weekend Edition: Monday.

The final day of the holiday weekend took me to the yard as usual and then Opal and I rode the bike trail to see if anything was up elsewhere. It was a better day than the rest of the weekend, though still really nothing to write home about. Oh well, sometimes you just have to suffer through slow days.

Kickin’ it off with THE and PAPER, two of my favorites.

Labor Day Weekend Edition: Sunday.

Yet another slow day at the yard. I’m a little disappointed with how this weekend is turning out freight wise. More streaks but not much else. Other things have been good at the yard (won’t go into details here), but I was hoping for a busier weekend. I guess I got a little spoiled with the Boxcar Bonanza that was Memorial Day Weekend. Oh well. So it goes.

Labor Day Weekend Edition: Saturday.

Not much going on Saturday, just a few streaks and a couple pieces. I heard some horns rolling through this morning during breakfast so hopefully the yard will be hopping later this afternoon.

Labor Day Weekend Edition: Friday.

Getting a head start on the holiday weekend with a post of the flicks from Friday. It was a pretty good bench today and even though I have to work this weekend, I’m looking forward to the holiday. Hopefully things will still be moving over the next few days.

I’m going to kick it off with a little AMFM since a little of that on a nice TBOX first thing in the morning will set any day on the right track.

Totally Slacking Edition.

So once again, I’ve fallen behind editing and posting photos. I’m sorry, but sometimes life gets in the way. But I’m caught up and ready to do a pre-weekend post, so here goes.
